The concept of creating charity funds shall help to increase patient numbers to generate more income. At the moment the KMH creates every day a deficit. Treatment prices are lower than the costs. Biggest chunk are the salaries of the doctors and nurses. That is why the salaries have been reduced to monthly basic pay cheques, ending the practice of pay per treated patient. But one has to consider that the heads of the departements will recieve so much, that they feel not enticed to go to a different hospital. This would harm the good image and the good quality of treatment in the KMH.

Some of the reports of medical students are on our website, unfortunately in German only. We work on it and encourage our foreign students to send us reports about their time in Nepal. AMPPIPAL 2006
ROAD IN AMPPIPAL FINISHED December 2005
We are happy to report that the road to Amppipal hospital was finished 28th December 2005. From now on a jeep service exists from Dumre directly to the hospital. We collected 10000.- Euro during a presentation tour around Germany with Dr. Starke at the beginning of 2005 for the construction of a road from the Amppipal hospital to the village. Patients do not have to be carried anymore. It was enough money to reconstruct the windows, roofs and toilets as well. Follow the link to pictures of the opening ceremony of the road. Lectures in Berlin and Saxony in Januar 2006 On the following dates Dr. Wolfhard Starke will be reporting about his work in Amppipal, Gorkha district.
In October and November 2005 Florian and Mona Drews visited both the hospitals (Amppipal and KMH) in order to hand over donations and to talk about recent developments. Dr. Starke's decision to leave Nepal has luckily been suspended until summer since the new road has been build and plans of the new energy plant have been discussed to supply Amppipal hospital. Calenders 2006
Interested? mail to family Drews in Grimma The beautiful calender Nepal 2006 issued by "Nepalhilfe Aachen" can be bought in Grimma from Silke and Arne Drews. It costs 9,90 Euro. The full amount of our earnings of about 6 € will be spent on projects for Nepal entirely. 700 calenders were distributed so far. As every year, we are supported not only by private persons but as well by local stores: Tapir Leipzig, Bücherwurm Grimma, Karuna Lohstr. 9 in Chemnitz, Eine Welt Laden Chemnitz and Kerzenladen in the castle Lichtenwalde nearby Chemnitz. Thanx a million! We urgently look
for: Nepalmed - Our Contribution According to our resources and the preferential needs of PHECT we support the following activities: Sending medical personnel In 2003 we sent a German trauma surgeon to work at KMH for 5 years and an orthopeadic surgeon for four months. For six months a couple of German nurses worked at KMH. Every year we send between 20 and 30 medical students and other volunteers from all over the world to the hospital for practical training and to carry donated goods from Germany. Dr. Dhital Surgery Charity Fund In 2003 this fund was created by Dr. Dhital in order to cover the cost of treatment for the poorest patients. Nepalmed and the volunteers collected considerable amounts to help starting the fund. KMH medical library We are looking for specialized medical books, colour atlas, CD-ROM, Journals. Maybe You know a book merchant or anybody willing to contribute. It would be of great help to get assistance from the U.K., because our problem with any literature is the need for translation into English. We ordered medical journals (e.g. LANCET, NEJM, British Journal of Surgery, Best Evidence CD-Rom) and textbooks to supply the doctors with up-to-date knowledge. We are aware of the fact, that the implementation of the latest studies is to a large extent impossible for Nepalese doctors due to the lack of hardware, drugs or follow-up-investigations by experts. Instruments for surgery At the moment there is a big need to replace worn basic instruments like needle holders, scissors and so on. They also operate endoscopically for several years and need new instruments. Assistance in - setting up an Intensive Care Unit (ventilators, defibrilators, tubes...) - the extention to 130 beds hospital capacity for the move to Exhibition Road in Kathmandu. - starting a Maternity and Child Health Centre Informing about Nepal We stage events with speeches, slides, talks and aim to publish articles to promote knowledge about Nepal. We also help to organize practical training (elective periode) for medical students at the Kathmandu Model Hospital with possible visits to other hospitals in Nepal. |
