Public Health Concern Trust (phect - NEPAL) Kathmandu Model Hospital is a non - governmental institution functioning under the Public Health Concern Trust. phect- NEPAL is a secular, non-political, not for making profit, national level non-governmental organization committed in health development. It was founded in 1991 and is governed by and independent Executive Board. In addition, an advisory team comprising experts of different fields supports it. phect-NEPAL is registered with the Social Welfare Council and District Administration Office, Kathmandu. The phect-NEPAL Constitution is the principal guiding document of the organization. Mission of phect-NEPAL Recognizing the HEALTH is the individual's ability to achieve, enjoy and maintain a harmonic relationship with his/her being and the nature at large, the MISSION of phect-NEPAL is to work for a society with healthy people. The direction of phect-NEPAL is guided by the vision of empowerment of people through health action. Goal of phect-NEPAL phect-NEPAL aims to create a model of sustainable health care system based on principles of equity, social justice, people's participation and self relaince. Thus, having been evolved through more than a decade of existence, phect-NEPAL is taking the shape of a movement rather than a mere organization. Programs of phect-NEPAL
A. Clinical service
Health Information and service Center (HISC) is the original concept of phect-NEPAL reaching to community. It is a community based primary health care center run by paramedics and local health volunteers and managed by local coordination committee. Some of them now have been transformed into health cooperatives.
phect-NEPAL aims to create an environment where people themselves have right, power and ability to maintain and decide for their health. Health cooperative was seen as an alternative to achieve this since the inception of phect-NEPAL. Health cooperative is an autonomous organization owned and managed by the people themselves. Health cooperative runs curative as well as promotional and preventive health activities. (currently, the health cooperatives associated with phect-NEPAL are: Women's Health Cooperative Tikathali, Setidevi Health Cooperative, Bikalpa Cooperative Kirtipur, Rajmarga Health Cooperative Baireni, Sahaj Health Cooperative Nawalparasi, GEFONT Health Cooperative and Public Health Concern Cooperative)
Gauri Shankar General Hospital is a 15-bed general hospital operating since 2003 as an outreach District Health Program of KMH in Dolakha. B. Community services Community Health Development Program (CHDP) CHDP is the major unit of phect-NEPAL to work in community that has been functioning since establishment of phect-NEPAL. It aims to: help the community to explore their own potential to resolve their health problems, link community health issues with hospital services and advocate for issues of people's health importance. Community Based Reproductive Health and Counseling Center (CBRHCC) Gender Based Violence Program (GBV) GBV program, based in Kirtipur Municipality and the adjoining VDCs are operating through the central RH Center in Kirtipur and many out-reach centers. The program aims to improve reproductive health status of people as well as advocate against gender based violence through RH counseling, RH care, legal, social and social counseling, educational activities etc. GBV program is technically supported by Italian Association for Women & Development (AIDOS), Italy. Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia, Dolakha (RHIYA) phect-NEPAL has started RHIYA program based in Bhimeswor Municipality and four VDCs (Sushpa, Sundrawati, Lapilang and Lamidanda) of Dolakha District with technical support from EU / UNFPA since 2003. The program aims to improve Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) among adolescents and youths, and to reduce Gender Based Violence through advocacy & Comprehensive RH services. Community Dental Center Community Dental Center of phect-NEPAL is a Kirtipur based dental center that provides curative as well as preventive dental care to the people. C. Academic program Kathmandu Model Hospital - School of Oral Health phect-NEPAL has stepped into the formal training program recognized by the government by establishing "Kathmandu Model Hospital - School of Oral Health" in 2000 with affiliation to the Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT). The overall objective of the program is to contribute on development of human resources in the field of oral health by producing dental hygienists who can perform primary dental care services and provide preventive and promotional service. The school has produced two batches of 2-year Dental Hygienistst, and now in the process of starting 3-year Oral Hygienist program that equivalents proficiency certificate level in health science. Kathmandu Model Hospital - School of Nursing (KAMHSON) phect-NEPAL has started "Kathmandu Model Hospital - School of Nursing" in the year 2002 with affiliation of Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT). The school at present conducts a 3 - year Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing program with 40 seats per batch. KAMHSON is guided with the vision of "deliver nursing education of teh highest quality to meet the needs of individuals, academic institution, health institution and the nation as whole through widening participation and raising intellectual, academic and practical achievements by providing skills, kinowledge and qualification as well as by facilitating the ethical noms and social responsibility. Continuous Medical Education phect-NEPAL organizes regular short and long-term orientation / basic trainings and talk programs on various medical and related issues within the organization as well as outside to update knowledge and skill of its staff. Clincal Pracical Field - for different level of medical students / internship program for MBBS students (in process) Medical Elective Program - for foreign medical students (organized widely by NEPALMED Germany) D. Advocacy Accepting advocacy as a basic tool of empowering people, phect-NEPAL has been involving in advocacy on different public health issues. The major issues that phect advocates for are: Patients' Rights phect-NEPAL has initiated advocacy for patients' rights and proceeded sensitizing activities in the community, among the health professionals and other people working in the hospital recognizing the patients' role in the treatment process and right of access to adequate information. Against gender based discrimination phect-NEPAL has started advocacy for eliminating gender based violence in society to protect rights of human being. Advocacy on other public health issues E. Networking To achieve declared goal and meet vision and mission of the organization, in addition to owns effort, phect-NEPAL has developed networks with concerned government institutes and other various national and international organizations as regular / program wise working partners and support.
